FIELD lacrosse EVALUATIONS
Port Coquitlam has been operating its own independent Field lacrosse program since 1995, and it is one of the fastest growing sports in North America. Recently we have had a large influx of players moving from Box Lacrosse into the Field game. Many opportunities exist locally and abroad to continue this game into college and university. Many athletes that have played in Port Coquitlam have gone on to scholarships in the US, and many more have joined the local collegiate ranks of Lacrosse at Simon Fraser University.
Typically we have only had 1 team at each age group per season, but this is no longer the case. All athletes will be invited to attend practice and the coaches will view the kids in game situations during the tiering rounds. Tiering runs for the first 3 weeks of September. When tiering comes to a completion, coaches will select their respective Tier 1 and Tier 2 teams. In many cases, players talent levels will already be known to the coaches from the box season. No formal tryout process has been developed and this may change in the future as the game continues to explode. Feel free to ask any questions during the tiering process. Port Coquitlam Minor Lacrosse will not charge any additional fees for athletes that play in multiple games during the tiering round.
In 2008 the Pacific Coast Field Lacrosse League introduced a U7 division to bring the game to children under the typical starting age of 9.
